Enjoy free fun at Soho House on Bank Holiday Monday with Power Up!
1st May 2013
A celebration of steam, water and electric power will take place at Birmingham’s Soho House on Bank Holiday Monday and the public are invited to come and join in for free.
The Power Up! event will take place from 12noon until 4pm at the former home of industrialist and entrepreneur Mathew Boulton and focuses on the power which drove the industrial revolution and shaped our modern world.
Marvel at a massive Road Traction Engine in full steam, and take part in hair-raising electrical experiments, including a Van der Graaf Generator, Tesla Coil and Plasma Balls.
Visitors to the museum off the Soho Road can see a range of scale model steam engines, some running on live steam, and meet the experts who built and restored them.
Follow in Matthew Boulton's footsteps and find out about water power by taking part in family-friendly experiments, and make a windmill in the craft activity area.
You can also take the unique opportunity to get fit and create your own healthy food at the same time by using your pedal power to make a smoothie on a 'Smoothie Bike'.
The event is free of charge. Admission to see Soho House is £4, £3 for children under 16 free. For more information on this and other events visit www.bmag.org.uk
