25th February 2014
This week is Student Volunteering Week and we are thrilled to announce that Carl Graves has been named Birmingham Museums Trust Student Volunteer of the Year 2014.
Carl has been volunteering for the Trust in the curatorial team since 2009. Even whilst working towards his PhD at the University of Birmingham he has been truly dedicated to supporting our curators and has become an invaluable member of the team. His work on our Egyptology collections has included preparing for loans, assisting with our Museum Collection Centre Open days, and even researching aspects of the collections himself. He has also made a huge contribution to the Secret Egypt exhibition which has allowed museum audiences across the country to see Birmingham’s collection. On top of all this he has also helped Birmingham Museums Trust to develop stronger links with the University of Birmingham through facilitating visits to see the Egyptology collections and running presentations to both staff and students.
We would like to thank Carl for all his help over the last 4 years. And thanks to The Drop Forge for providing the prize for our winner!
