22nd October 2012
This Halloween, families can enjoy a whole host of spooky goings on and fun activities at Birmingham venues including Aston Hall and Soho House. From ghoulish tours to theatre with Dracula there is something to entertain all visitors.
From 23 - 28 October, Soho House’s cellars will be transformed into dungeons as terrible tales of 18th century crime and punishment are explored for Spooky Soho. Entry to the venue is normally £4/£3 concessions but will be free for anyone who turns up in Halloween fancy dress. Entrance is free for all children under 16. The venue is open daily, 12 - 4pm.
There are storytelling events for families and children; a weekend of Halloween stories kicks off this Friday from 12noon at Aston Hall, with something suitable for children of every age group. On October 28, 12 - 4pm, Blakesley Hall will be visited by Samuel Pepys, who will read tales of fire and plague from his diary. Visitors to Blakesley Hall between 23-28 October will see the hall as Plague and Pestilence is rumoured. Wear your spookiest, plague infested costume and come along to find out more about plague cures. Spot the rats!!
Families will also enjoy ‘Cauldrons, Cats & Cobwebs: a Halloween Extravaganza’ at the Museum Collections Centre on 26 October, 6-9pm. Dress up in your scariest costumes and come along to follow a spine tingling path through the atmospheric stores to see some of the scariest museum objects not usually on display – who knows what, or who, you might encounter along the way. Entrance is £1 per person.
For the adults, there are a very few tickets left for ‘Dracula Walks the Night’ at Aston Hall. This one off performance at 7.30pm on October 31 by Victorian Theatre Company ‘Don’t Go Into the Cellar’ will have you jumping in your seat. Tickets are £12 per person and can be booked in person or by calling 0121 303 1966 or visiting book online.
