Sunday 9th September – ‘Worlds Apart: Parallel Lives’ – 12 – 4pm
Visit Aston Hall for free to find out about the links between Aston Hall and the Taj Mahal, and between Aston today and the Indian subcontinent.
Meet people from the past; have a Mehndi hand decoration; make a floral garland or a rangoli pattern; try new foods from hundreds of years ago!
Saturday 8th September – Guided tour of Blakesley Hall – 2pm
Come along to Blakesley Hall to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their redevelopment with a guided tour. All staff in costume – find out about life as a Tudor! Free entry.
Sunday 9th September – Tour of St Edburgha’s Church, Yardley – 2pm
Join Blakesley Hall staff for a free guided tour of St Edburgha’s Church, Yardley, a listed Medieval church. The church dates back 800 years, and the area has been a centre of worship for 1000 years. Meet at Blakesley Hall at 2pm
Museum of the Jewellery Quarter
Thursday 6th, Friday 7th, Saturday 8th September – free costumed tours – 10.30-4pm
Entrance to factory tour and galleries is free every day. Free costumed guided tours of the factory (places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis).
Saturday 8th September – Designer Dishes (adult workshop) – 1-3pm
Join designer maker Anna Lorenz to design and make your own contemporary dish or bowl using metals, recycled materials and traditional craft techniques. Adults only; cost includes your own dish. Booking essential. £15 per person.
Thursday 6th, Friday 7th September – Behind the Scenes tour - 2pm
A free 'behind the scenes tour' at Sarehole Mill where work has started to de-silt the millpool, repair the mill machinery and roof and restore the mid-Victorian bakehouse to working order.
Saturday 8 September – Historic guided walk – 2pm
Free guided historic walk along the river Cole. Explore the history of this stretch of the River Cole by looking at landscape features and historic watercourses. Walk starts from mill yard, lasts roughly one hour, sturdy shoes advisable.
Sunday 9 September @2.00pm
Tolkien themed guided walk. Step back in time and find out about the early life of JRR Tolkien, author of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Explore Moseley Bog and see some of the places that inspired 'the Shire', fictional land of the Hobbits. Walk starts from mill yard and lasts approximately one hour, sturdy shoes advisable.
Saturday 8th September - Boulton's Brum: Walk and Talk – 11am
Join museum staff to discover the secrets of the local area with a walking tour, followed by a light lunch at acclaimed local pub, The Black Eagle. Tour between 11.00am - 1.30pm. £10 charge and prebooking is essential.
Sunday 9th September – Soho House Rooftop tours
Free rooftop tours of Soho House. Find out more about Matthew Boulton’s love of astronomy while taking in the views of this normally closed area of the house. Places must be prebooked and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
