As of Sunday 30th October and until Christmas 2011 there will be no public access from the end of the bridge link to all galleries and spaces beyond at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This is to allow for building works in this area to take place and will result in the building having to operate as two separate sites during this period. 

Access from the Chamberlain Square entrance will be to the Round Room, Bridge Link, Industrial Gallery, shop and restaurant only. Escorted access to these areas for wheelchair users will be via the Council House. Please see the Access page for more information or view the information about entrances on a map.

Access to all other areas will be via the Gas Hall entrance and lift on Edmund Street, or the Great Charles Street entrance for those wanting to go directly to galleries at the back of the building.

Birmingham – A City in the Making is a £9.0m capital development project that will see the creation of innovative new galleries telling the global story of Birmingham and its people, from prehistory to the present day.  It will transform the top floor of this Grade II* listed museum and significantly enhance visitor facilities. 

The following work will be completed by Christmas 2011 on the second floor:

• An improved visitor orientation area
• A new family activity area
• A new decorative art gallery
