6th August 2011
The free Open Day at the Museum Collections Centre in Duddeston, Birmingham on August 21st has a special Staffordshire Hoard theme. There will be previously undisplayed Hoard objects available to view for the first time. Curator Dr David Symons and Hoard Conservation Project Manager Deborah Cane will be on hand to talk about the latest conservation findings.
Talks will be for 15 minutes on the hour every hour from 11am. In between there will be time to talk to them and find out more about their work on the Hoard. This year's Staffordshire Hoard conservation tours have sold out - so this will be a rare chance to find out more in person!
There will also be Birds of Prey displays and a chance to meet Wulfred and Sagfred, our two time Anglo Saxon Soldiers.
There will also be displays also from our Portable Antiquities archaeology team and a chance to see a Metalworker in action.
Open 10.30am - 5pm on August 21st. Free. The Open Days enable visitors to see the City's reserve collections close-up and provide an opportunity for some historical exploration with objects from both past and present.
The Museum Collections Centre is within easy reach of the city centre close to Duddeston station or the number 26 bus stop. There is free parking at the Museum Collections Centre. See the map for more information.
A vintage bus service courtesy of Aston Manor Transport Museum will travel between Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (Edmund Street) and the Museum Collections Centre. View the timetable (word document).
