Welcoming international museum professionals to Birmingham
Every summer the British Museum runs a training programme for museum professionals from around the world, with up to 24 participants spending 6 weeks in the UK.
The summer programme seeks to expose curators, exhibition designers, archaeologists and education specialists to various aspects of museum work, develop skills, and to create a global network of colleagues around the world.
A key element of the programme is a 10-day period spent at another UK museum, as part of the Partnership UK project. Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery became one of six regional partners in 2009, and since then has welcomed museum professionals from India, Palestine, Egypt and Turkey.
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery delivered a varied programme, which included visits to the photography and conservation studios, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, Blakesley Hall, Aston Hall and the Museum Collection Centre. Over the weekend, the four trainees also enjoyed the Back to Backs, Warwick Castle and a boat trip on Birmingham’s canals. We celebrated their last evening in Birmingham at a Moroccan restaurant in the city centre.
