Bridget Riley: Flashback exhibition closes Sunday 23rd May
The Bridget Riley: Flashback exhibition will close at the end of the week on Sunday 23rd May at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
The exhibition is the first in a new series of solo artist's exhibitions from the Arts Council Collection. It includes the iconic work 'Movement in Squares' (1961), which Riley credits as the beginning of her breakthrough into abstraction. Since the mid-1960s Bridget Riley has been celebrated for her distinctive, optically vibrant paintings. The exhibition includes 30 works on paper mainly from the artist's own collection that are on show for the first time.
Councillor Martin Mullaney Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture previously said about the exhibition:
“I am delighted that ‘Bridget Riley – Flashback’ is proving to be such a great success. It shows that local people have a great appetite for contemporary art and this is a great opportunity to see works by one of Britain’s most important living artists.”
The exhibition is in the Waterhall gallery and admission is free.
