Record Numbers attend Birmingham Museums Collection Centre Open Day
15th May 2009
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery's Collections Centre enjoyed record numbers on its seventh public open day on May Bank Holiday.
'Very Good for all the family. Kept or 5-year old entertained (no mean feat!!!)'
Visitors enjoyed free rides on a model steam engine supplied by Birmingham Society of Model Engineers.
Heritage buses and coaches where provided by Aston Manor Transport Museum. Enthusiasts from Midlands car clubs created their very own classic car show, adding to the many classic vehicles inside the Museum Collections Centre.
'Seeing objects that previously I've only seen pictures of in books or on TV'
The Museums Conservation Department ran a plastics workshop providing advice on collecting and looking after plastic objects. And finally...'Gary' the Coca Cola Bull put in an appearance to the delight of all attending.
'Considering the purpose of the building is warehouse storage artefacts have been made surprisingly accessible'
Plans are underway for further open days in June (photography event), August (a summer fete) and October (drawing event). See events.
