Work Experience

Birmingham Museums Trust offers a number of work experience placements in various departments across our nine sites throughout the year.

Our placements are open to anyone over the age of fifteen who is not currently in employment. Each placement is two weeks long and is a great chance to gain some experience of the sector, develop your skills and knowledge, as well as getting a general awareness of the working world.

We ask that all our potential work experience applicants visit as many of our sites as possible so that they have a better idea of which placement might be best for them and to give them an understanding of the Trust as a whole.

We are currently full for all of our 2014 placements but applications for some of our are now open for 2015:

Placements at Thinktank, Birmingham's Science Museum:

Work experience placements at Thinktank in the Visitor Services Team are ideal for anyone who is interested in gaining experience of working life within a museum or within science or heritage communication. The two week placement provides observation based experiences that give an insight into the role of the Visitor Services Team within a busy museum. The role is public facing and you will form part of the core team that interacts with visitors on a daily basis, shadowing members of the Visitor Services Team, meeting and greeting school groups and other visitors to the museum and interacting with them by understanding the content of the galleries. There will be opportunity to watch some of the education and public programme that we deliver, as well as taking an active role in daily operations to understand how Thinktank operates.

For more information and specific dates please download the Thinktank work placement document.

To apply just fill out the attached application form and return to us before the closing date. We will let you know as soon as possible after that date if you have been successful.
