Learning at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery

Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery uses its collections, buildings and services to encourage learning, inspiration and enjoyment for all.

Regular family activities take place at all the museums, especially during the school holidays and at weekends.

There are also guided tours, talks and events for adults held throughout the year. Look at the events section or contact us to find out more.

Services for Schools

Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery has a team of teachers and Learning Officers who work with pupils when they visit Museum sites. They teach across the age range, from 4 years - 18 years.

Teaching session

All teaching sessions are closely linked to the curriculum and to the needs of schools. Children can take part in role-play, drama, historical investigation and discovery, critical studies and art activities, science explorations, maths workshops and more. We also have a wide range of artefact boxes to loan to schools.

The Schools Liaison website offers curriculum resources and learning support for teachers, and is also very useful for parents and kids. There are some great interactive resources on the site for key stages 1-4 and above.

Resources for use by English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes.
