5th April 2014 - 5th April 2014
Led by Maria Alambritis, Heritage Lottery Fund Arts Council Trainee, this is a fantasitc opportunity to see behind the scenes in our Print Room store.
The session will explore how the artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their circle understood and depicted the male figure in their art. From their early academic training to the development of their later, individualised styles, we will look at a range of studies, drawings, watercolours and prints to trace the development of a distinctive ‘Pre-Raphaelite man’. The artists’ use of male models, including each other, will be considered as well as their choice of male characters from specific mythologies and narratives conveying important messages and ideas about their understanding of love and gender. Including artists such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones and Simeon Solomon, this event will be an opportunity to view rarely displayed works, including humorous and intimate caricatures from the early years of the brotherhood.
10.30 - 11.30am (please meet Maria in the Round Room for 10.30am)
Tickets £10.00 per person - please note that spaces are limited and advance booking is essential
