Open Studio - Sarah Taylor Silverwood (Whitworth Wallis Artist in Residence)

Location: Birmingham Museum

16th October 2013 - 16th October 2013

Sarah Taylor Silverwood is Artist in Residence at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) from Monday 23 September until Friday 18 October 2013.  She is funded by the Whitworth Wallis Trust.  The aim of her residency is to produce a new piece of work inspired by the Museum’s collection.

Come and take a closer look at Sarah’s work in the Activity Zone between 1pm and 4pm. Free.

Other open studios sessions will be held on 2nd and 9th October from 1pm and 4pm. Sarah is keen to include opportunities for visitors to contribute to her work and there will also be a drop in drawing workshop for all ages on Saturday 12 October (times to be confirmed).

Sarah graduated from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) in 2011 with an MA in Fine Art.  Her work to date has explored a number of different drawing practices, including maps, architectural drawings and comic books.  She attempts to challenge the value we place on these particular forms of artistic expression, whilst encouraging new interpretations of drawing.  Sarah has received a number of awards for her work including the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2008 and the National Drawing Inspiration Award in 2012.

Whitworth Wallis was the first director of BMAG.  The Whitworth Wallis Trust was set up in his name, and funds an annual residency.  This residency at BMAG is in partnership with the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) and is open to students graduating from BA and MA courses.  Birmingham Museums Trust would like to thank Whitworth Wallis Trust for supporting this Artist in Residency Programme.
