Middle-earth weekend is a free festival celebrating the life of J.R.R. Tolkien within the childhood haunts that inspired him. Activities include archery, barrel racing on the river, climbing wall, drama, music, guided walks, poetry, re-enactment, storytelling. 11am-5pm. There is a charge for some activities but entrance to the event is free. www.middleearthweekend.org.uk
This weekend in a volunteer led event. Regular features include marquees on the recreation ground behind the mill. In the marquees you'll find artisans showing and selling their craft (wool, wood, leather); activities, this year's theme is 'there be dragons, theatrical entertainment and the 'Tolkien tent' with local history groups, readings, quizzes and stalls.
