The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) names Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery as the 2014 recipient of the AIA Conservation and Heritage Management (CHM) Award for excellence in the conservation of archaeological artefacts and the public education of archaeological conservation is the Staffordshire Hoard Conservation Project (SHCP) for its work on the conservation of the spectacular Anglo-Saxon artefacts found in Staffordshire.

On Monday 7 October, Julia Donaldson showed pupils from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School around ‘A Squash and A Squeeze’ the exhibition which has been wowing audiences in Birmingham throughout the summer bringing the author’s captivating stories to life.

Dr Ellen McAdam, Director of Birmingham Museums, is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Freer as the new Chair of Birmingham Museums Trust. Steve joins the Trust as Honorary Aldermen Len Clark steps down after 10 years as Chair of Birmingham Museums.

Heritage Lottery Fund awards Birmingham Museums Trust £97,000 grant to purchase Joseph Wright of Derby portrait of Erasmus Darwin

Birmingham Museums Trust has been awarded a grant of £97,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) towards the purchase of Joseph Wright of Derby’s superb portrait of Erasmus Darwin. The HLF award means that after 12 months of fundraising, Birmingham Museums Trust has raised the asking price of £275,000 to complete the purchase.
