Visiting the Staffordshire Hoard

Visiting the Staffordshire Hoard

7th October 2009

The public response to the Staffordshire Hoard has been unprecedented.

There has been a huge demand to view the Staffordshire Hoard artefacts on display at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery. This is a rare opportunity to glimpse this historic treasure literally fresh out of the ground from where it was found. The display of around 100 objects from the hoard of 1600 items has been achieved in weeks rather than months or years.

It has proved so popular that the queuing time can be around 2 or more hours - especially at busy times when it can be more than 3 hours.

We are doing our best to keep the queues moving and appreciate the patience of visitors.

We recommend that you allow plenty of time to queue and see the exhibition. It is also a good idea to wear appropriate clothing for the weather as the queue may stretch outside and bring refreshments and entertainment for any small children also.

We also recommend if you can visit we are open each morning from 9am except Sunday 11th Oct when we open at 11am.

You could also visit on Saturday 10th October when we are open from 9am until 11pm and at the same time experience our Light Night event with late-night cultural entertainment, light installations and a performance of nutkhut's Bolly Wood Steps by Simmy Gupta - an extravaganza of dance, music, light, water and fireworks.

Mon 12th and Tues 13th the final two days the museum is open 9am until 9pm
