Staffordshire Hoard Appeal
1st October 2009
Help us to keep this unique treasure in the West Midlands
Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery are asking for support from people in the region to keep the Staffordshire Hoard in the West Midlands.
The Hoard was declared 'Treasure' at a Coroner's Court on September 24th, so it is now the property of the Crown in accordance with the Treasure Act (1996). Once the current exhibition at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery finishes on October 13th the artefacts will go to the British Museum to be assessed and valued. Once the valuation has been completed, interested museums are given the opportunity to seek purchase.
Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery seek to acquire the Hoard in partnership with Stoke Museums and are planning a fundraising campaign to raise the money that will be needed.
Help us to acquire this unique Anglo-Saxon treasure hoard.
