West Midlands Open at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

A new exhibition of work by some of the region’s most exciting new and established working artists opens 25 October 2014. Works have been selected by expert panel including Turner Prize nominated Roger Hiorns, and the exhibition is an opportunity for visitors to purchase affordable, original art.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is proud to be hosting the 2014 West Midlands Open exhibition. Opening 25 October 2014, West Midlands Open is a biennial public art exhibition, in which both professional and amateur artists from all disciplines can apply to have their work shown in the Gas Hall, Birmingham Museums’ largest and most prestigious exhibition space.
81 works have been chosen for display, selected by an expert judging panel, including Turner Prize-nominated artist Roger Hiorns, Exhibitions and Artists’ Projects Curator Zoe Lippett from the New Art Gallery Walsall, and Birmingham-based artist Barbara Walker. They include painting, sculpture, film, drawing and printmaking. Many works selected for the show will be available for visitors to purchase.

Birmingham Museums is committed to supporting artistic talent in the region, and this is a unique opportunity for artists, wherever they may be in their artistic career, to have their work displayed in such a high-profile venue”.
Roger Hiorns comments; “It's a great opportunity for me to be involved in the art and culture of my birthplace and somehow be of help in encouraging a new generation of Midlands artists.”
